A systems problem at the airport's ATC meant no aircraft could enter or leave the hub.

Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were suspended due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are managed.
