The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad has just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
