The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
